Bird Notes

Hey, everyone!

The theme for this week's challenge is masculine! I don't do a lot of masculine cards for some reason but I do enjoy making CAS cards. CAS cards, for those that may not know, are Clean And Simple cards. When I think of masculine cards, I tend to think of clean lines, not much detail and nothing froo-froo. So I chose this bird and sentiment from Bird Notes by Treehouse Stamps. I think of nature when I think of masculine themes, so I simply colored the image and here is what I came up with:
The faux rhinestones are as "over-the-top" as it gets for this card. I had to add a little shimmer! You can purchase this digital stamp set and others by clicking here and play along with the challenges here.

Cupcake Contest!

Hey, everyone!

You may have noticed how much I love digital images! They are so fun to play with; so versatile, too. I was looking for free digital stamps/images when I saw THIS POST. Of course I wanted the free cupcake image! I loved it! Then I read about the contest and thought, why not? So here is my entry:
I made this card for my mother-in-law's birthday. I colored 4 cupcakes that I had printed and then asked some coworkers to pick which one they liked the best. I didn't tell them which one was my favorite but we all agreed that this is the cupcake that we liked the most. I put this card together and submitted it. It was hard waiting until May 1 to see if I had won. It was even harder to wait without Internet service until May 5! So guess, what? They liked my card enough to give me a Guest Design Team Spot win, too! Check it out HERE. Oh I am so excited!!


The card above is one I sent to my friend Christina. I knew she would love the purple cupcake wrapper and these bold colors are SO HER! It is shimmery!! I hope you like the cards and thank you for sharing in the excitement about my new win! Stay tuned for more cards using their free stamps!

Frugal Friday

Hey, everyone!

Today is the last Friday of the month so this will be my final Frugal Friday Tip! I hope you have enjoyed them! Today's tip is to purchase a heart-shaped piece of Plastic Canvas like so:

Now I do not remember how to do counted-cross-stitching, but I picked up one of these at Walmart a while back. You can get any shape but I like the hearts because you get lines going straight across, curved and angled (like for a square). This one template will let you take your piercing tool and create a perfect line of holes for paper piercing. After punching holes in your cardstock, run a white gel pen, or any marker of your choice along the lines and it looks like you stitched your card! So fun!! I love it when one product can do so many different things!

Now if you tuned in yesterday you will recall that Donna asked me to GO GREEN! I shared a card that had a lot of green in it. She asked me to see how many shades of green I could get on one card. Well guess what? I did it again, only this time the entire card is green! The only exception is the doodle dots and they are shimmery and the flowers are yellow. Here was my inspiration:

You see that little square pillow in the photo? Well I wanted to create a card using that as my inspiration. I got a good start and then got stuck so my right hand (wo)man, Christina, inspired me. So here is my card just as green as it gets:
I used VersaMark on each panel to stamp an image from the Sprigs stamp set. The sentiment was from a special stamp set that was offered in January, I believe. I love buttons and wanted to use them on this card. So here is how it turned out! I hope you all like it!!!

Hey, everyone!

It's time for me to share another Christmas Card with you! I joined a Christmas Card Club in February and each month I make 4 cards. These cards will be given to my customers at random, unless, ahem! you request you want a particular one. There was a sketch over on SplitCoastStampers that I thought looked fun so I used it. Here is that sketch:

I used designer paper from My Mind's Eye. I love this particular pack! It's sparkly and gorgeous all color coordinated! Super fun! In real life it looks much brighter and fun! Very hard to get a good shot today! The sentiment and Premium White Cardstock, the Palette Hybrid Inks are all from The Angel Company. I used Circle Sampler in Cognac and Inspirational Sayings in Landscape. I traced the sentiment with my clear Stardust Glitter Gel Pen. The green cardstock is something I had in my stash and have no idea where it came from!
This card definitely meets this month's CCC challenge of make it sparkly and/or blingy. I know in November I will be so glad I took the challenge of 4 cards per month when I don't have to sit down and make 30 all at one time! Have you started on your Christmas cards yet? Hey everyone!

I had great intentions of sharing my Scripture Challenge page with you all yesterday but the Easter festivities kept me "hopping" (LOL) and I was unable to share! I will post it next Sunday I promise!

Today is the start of a new Color Combo Motivational at Paper Wings. If you are an Angel you should check it out! If you are not an Angel, you can still head on over to the gallery and check out the amazing projects that are sure to inspire you! Here is the color combo I selected:

I am using Burnt Sienna for the Rust color; Orangerie next, Landscape, Jardin Moss and Starry Night. These are all Palette Hybrid inks! I am also using white cardstock. Here is the card I came up with:
I created a background with the Build-A-Flower stamp set. The tags I made with my Sizzix machine and held them together with the orange flower brad. Isn't it cute? I stamped the sentiment in Starry Night. Want a peek inside?
I usually do not go all out for the inside of my card. Very often I won't even add a sentiment until I know who I am giving the card to. This is really fun because I just placed the flower and stem at the bottom of the card. I added Prisma Glitter to all the flowers and leaves on this card for a little extra shimmer! Thank you -- quick and easy!

Hey, everyone!

I needed to make 4 quick thank you notes as I put some orders together. I just grabbed my Catelynne designer paper since I had already been working with it for the Alice in Wonderland party favors and thought it would be fun to use it. Doesn't it seem so springy and cheerful? I love this paper!
I stamped a flower from the Squiggle Ladybugs stamp set in Belle Rose then added a shadow with my Gray Tombow marker. Love that look! Of course I had to add some doodle dots with my white gel pen!

Here are all the cards together. I made the one in the front different since she was the hostess. I had a lot of fun at the FunShop and am eager to do it all again soon! Do you give out thank you cards? There's been a lot of talk about it around blog-land...and to be honest I had to think about that! I always send thank you notes to my customers but do I always remember to send thank you notes to my family and friends? Hmmm, maybe not enough! I think I will try to be more mindful of doing that!

Happy Birthday, Grandma Junie!

Hey, everyone!

Today is my husband's grandma's 80th birthday! We hope she has a WONDERFUL day! To help celebrate such a wonderful occasion, my children decided to make their great-grandma a birthday card. I had some kits left over from class so they were excited about stamping with Momma! Take a look:
Here is Kadesia with the Spinner Card she made. You gotta love all the shimmer on the ladybug! She wrote a really sweet message to her great-grandma and signed all of our names to it! How sweet!

I don't know what's more precious, this sweet baby face or the adorable card he made! This is the birthday card he wanted to give to his great-grandma! He stamped "You're the best!" on it several times. I let him put the pieces down the way he wanted to!! I told them Hallmark has nothing on them! Aren't they sweet?

Hey, everyone!

Today is another Color Combo Motivational at PaperWings! I think you will enjoy this one!!!
The color combo is:
Birch Cardstock (or something similar, natural or ivory)
Burnt Umber Palette Ink (or something similar, browns and tans)
Sparkle (think SHIMMER, SHINE, clear stardust glittering gel pen, rhinestones, bling, shiny ribbon, whatever!)
Have fun with this one! This is a card I am featuring at my card class later today.
I stamped the background in Burnt Umber Palette Hybrid Ink. I also sponged the edges of the Birch cardstock. The stamp I used for the background is from the Swirly Gigs stamp set. I also used shimmery brown ribbon at the top of the card. Gotta love the Bow-Easy!

The scalloped circle is punched from the More Mimi designer paper using the Mega Scalloped Circle Clever Lever Marvy Punch. This designer paper is Buy One Get One Free this month, so you should definitely order some during this special! I love this paper!!! The circle was punched from the Birch cardstock using my Super Jumbo Clever Lever Marvy Circle Punch. I sponged the edges of this circle, as well. The sentiment is from the Celebration Time stamp set. I inked it up in Burnt Umber then outlined it with my Clear Stardust Glitter Gel Pen for extra sparkle! I hope you will play along with this Motivational! My friend, Christina inspired me to create this card! She totally rocks!

Hey, everyone!

I wanted to give you the new colors for the Color Combo Motivational. I selected Prussian Blue, Charcoal, Sunflower and White. I hope you will play along. Leave me a link to your card!

St. Patrick's Day is next week! I am so excited. It's one of my most favorite holidays. My kids and I will be making cookies with green frosting again this year. Love that cookie making tradition. I think I will be going HERE for more fun ideas to celebrate! I am also having a FunShop for June L. on Wednesday so I am definitely looking forward to that!

Hey, everyone!

I wanted to show you the last two cards I created for the Christmas Card Club challenge. This month's challenge was to create a "long" card.
I used the Penelope designer paper from The Angel Company. I stamped the sentiment from Trendy Greetings on Reece designer paper then punched it out with my Super Jumbo Circle punch. I punched a piece of Penelope designer paper with my Mega Scalloped Circle punch.

I used my Build-A-Background hostess set to create the starry background on the Penelope designer paper with my Noir Palette Hybrid ink pad. The Trendy Greetings sentiment was stamped onto a piece of Reece designer paper and then punched with my Super Jumbo Oval punch.

Four Christmas cards made this year, 30 more to go!! I am not sure what the new challenge will be for next month but I am looking forward to making four more!

Hey, everyone!!

We are snowed in! We got a lot of snow, someone said 7" and that was on top of what we already had and guess what? Predictions of more snow this weekend! Yuck! Kadesia has loved being out on snow days but I reminded her that for everyday she misses due to snow, she will have to make it up, and most likely when the weather is nice and pretty!! No fair, huh? LOL I am definitely looking forward to warmer temperatures soon! Meanwhile, since it's so cold outside, it seemed fitting for me to make another Christmas Card. You can read about the challenge here.
My card is 6½" squared then scored at 3¼" with my Scor-Pal. The paper pack is Reece from The Angel Company. The sentiment is from Inspirational Sayings from TAC stamped in Jardin Moss. I hope you enjoyed seeing today's card. Stay warm!!!

Sweet Cards From My Sweetheart!

Hey, everyone!!

You may remember when I shared some photos of my daughter at the Crop A Little Love event we went to. I wanted to take the time to share some of the cards she made for me that day! She enjoys creating on her own and I am so proud of her.

This is the front of the card and it reads: Mom you rock for taking me! I (heart) u Love, Kadesia She used the More Mimi paper to punch a heart with the "love" sentiment on it from Tag Tidbits.
This is the backside of that card. She loves the glitter gel pens, too!
Here is her second card. She was a little disappointed that she didn't center the paper exactly but I told her it was beautiful just like it is! She punched the oval and stamped it!
She stamped this in the top of the inside. I love it! She used the Brighten Your Day stamp set. You can see from her note that she felt like she had messed up but I assured her once again that I love it!

Here she used Sprigs stamp set for the inside. She was being silly with her name, putting the hyphen in! LOL She is so funny!
Of course every artist needs to sign their work, right? She turned the card over and signed this work of art! Don't you love it!?! I am so blessed!

Hey, everyone!!

I just wanted to share the "thank you" cards I created for my customers who placed an order in January. I used my Scor-Pal to create a fun border for my sentiment. The card measures 4" x 8" and then I scored it in half at 4" also using my Scor-Pal. The sentiment is from the Squiggle Ladybugs stamp set using Noir Palette Hybrid Ink. The hearts are from Sweet Goodies using L'Amore Red Palette Hybrid Ink. I love the design in the hearts! Too cute!

First Card Class of 2010!

Hey, everyone!!

Yesterday was my card class. We made 4 cards that I will be sharing with you today! If you couldn't make it to the class but still want to come, the cost for the kit is $10 (plus s/h if I mail it) and includes images.

We created a masculine card because I think they are often more challenging to come up with ideas for! Here I used the Just Like Dad patterned paper, Decorative Corners stamp set, Tag Tidbits stamp set, Premium White Cardstock, Jardin Moss palette ink and Mega Scalloped Square Punch all from The Angel Company.

The second card I am showing you is great for baby showers and can be created in pink for girls or gender neutral colors. You can adapt the idea for birthdays, weddings, bridal showers, graduations, or whatever occasion you want! I am using Premium White Cardstock, Brighten My Day patterned paper, Hello Baby stamp set, Mega Scalloped Square Punch, Tombow Markers, Stardust Glitter Gel Pens, Noir Palette Hybrid Ink, Reflection Blue Palette Hybrid Ink, and Trendy Greetings stamp set all from The Angel Company. I also used a white gel pen from Signo Uni-ball that is the ultimate! LOVE IT!

I used an oval punch from TAC to punch the opening for the gift card.
The third card we created is an adorable treat holder that I saw on Angie Juda's blog. Valentine's Day is right around the corner, so what a great way to make a card and gift all in one for your family, friends, coworkers, school teachers, fellow church members, or your sweetheart! The cardstock is Birch and I have never ordered it before but I absolutely love it!!! It has a really nice weight to it and the specks in it make a very natural looking card. It's great! I heard a lot of great things about it in class and got an order for some going in soon!! The papers are from Miss Moxie and I used the Mega Scalloped Square Punch. I used my Tombow markers and Stardust Glitter Gel Pens to color the image in. Do you not love this bird? It's a Hostess Level A stamp set coming up in the brand new Serendipity magalogue that goes live February 1!!

I slipped a Ghiradelli chocolate and caramel square inside the card. The "friend" sentiment comes from the Beyond Measure Hostess Level B stamp set that you can earn with a qualifying party!! I used L'Amore Red Palette Hybrid ink and my Stardust Glitter Gel Pen to go over it for some added sparkle!
Our fourth and final card of the day was for another treat holder. This holds a Dove milk chocolate heart! I used red cardstock, black cardstock, Premium White Cardstock (TAC), the new Brighten Your Day stamp set available now for a limited time, stamped in Noir Palette Hybrid ink, colored with my Burnt Umber Copic Marker, Pink Souffle Gelly Pen, Stardust Glitter Gel Pens and Tombow Markers all from TAC. I accented the cat's eyes with my white gel pen.

The ribbon is from Walmart. It's tied in a knot on the side to secure the card together. Here's a look at the inside:

The sentiment is from Trendy Greetings and stamped in Palette Hybrid Ink. We also stamped hearts from the Build-A-Background Hostess Level A stamp set down the sides for a fun little border inside the card. The idea for this project came from Dawn Griffith. I apologize for the blurry photo. I don't know about my camera sometimes! LOL
