Red Velvet Cake anyone?

Hey everyone!

I hope you have all been enjoying your weekend. It has been a really nice one so far. I am really excited to have a little show and tell with you all. First of all, let me just say that when Paul bought this house 9 years ago, just before we got married, I wasn't sure what color to paint the walls. I had no experience in the paint department and so I just asked that the walls be painted white....in every single room! That's safe, right? LOL

A couple years ago, or so, I decided to be bold and brave and try some paint color on the living room walls, so we went with a daring color: beige! LOL It's not much darker than the white walls that lay beneath it but it was a start! Right?

When we painted my scrapbook room, which is now my son's bedroom, I wanted something bright and cheerful, so I picked a buttery yellow to match my sunny disposition! (wink) I loved it. The color was beautiful and even looks great for a baby boy's wall color, although we are going to be changing it soon.

So I decided to ask Paul to paint the kitchen and bathroom for me. No, if you can't tell by now, I do not know how to paint on the walls and I am terrified of messing it up so I stay out of the way and then ooh and aah over the results when it is finished. Paul went to Lowe's and grabbed some paint swatches. I was in Walmart getting a few things so I grabbed some paint chips there and when we got home we compared. One of the paint colors I liked a lot was similar to one he had chosen but I actually liked his better. It's called RED VELVET CAKE. Go HERE to see a paint swatch of the color. It is the last one on the right in the top row.

Here is what one coat looks like ... sort of. This is taken at like 1 o'clock this morning and the lighting isn't the best. This is the archway to go from the kitchen to the hallway.
Here is the window and we'll be leaving that trim painted white. I just love this color!
These cabinets came with the home and I have no idea how new they were prior to us moving in. I am going to change the hardware and leave the wood stain as is. I can hardly believe the paint color can make our cabinets look so much better than the plain white walls!
Paul has another coat of paint to add on today and then we're going to add a wallpaper border at the top. I haven't selected the one I want just yet. My curtains will go great with the color of the baseboards he will be painting it. I will try to take some better pictures when my kitchen is all finished but I am so very excited that he is doing this for me. I love it! It just feels so wonderful!
My mom gave me some paint that she had left over from painting my brother's bathroom and since my bathroom is small, it won't take much paint to put a couple coats on. I am eager to see it all finished! Slowly but steadily we are making our house into our home and I am so excited! It feels like we're moving in all over again but without all the boxes and trips to the car. Although I have been getting rid of lots and lots of things! Nothing like a good spring cleaning, huh?
Have a great day!
Hugs,

Bridgett, Your color is amazing! I love it! Our daughter just did one full wall in her bedroom as a focal point in a color from Lowe's that might very well be the same color! She's accented with butter yellow and a very pretty olive-ish green and her room looks very nice! I'll be anxious to see more photo's as you get things finished up!

I LOVE the color in the kitchen!

We're doing some BIG stuff- new windows, doors, some remodeling- this summer, then after that it will be new paint and paper. I know just how you feel and cannot wait!
